The Guiltless Foodies

Curing our Obsessive Coffee Disorder at 70 Beans, Sanpada.

Food Fact : – It takes around 70 beans (approximately 40 grams)  to actually produce 8 grams of coffee that makes a cup of freshly brewed solution to your OCD (Obsessive Coffee Disorder)

If you ask us, it’s coffee O’clock all the time. It is kind of the most important meal for us any day. Without Espresso we enter a state of Depresso !

We were Procaffeinating about our visit to the best Coffee place ever. A place that has it all – The best brews to the best food bundled with an overwhelming overall experience.

Our first visit to 70 Beans, Sanpada was not that admirable. Soon enough we heard through the grapevine that it is one of the best cafe in Navi Mumbai and also the 3rd most visited cafe in whole of Mumbai. Intrigued by the furore we planned a visit to 70 Beans. And the stories were true. There is more to them than meets the eye.

Not just known for their great coffee, this place deserves a pat in the back for everything they’ve become now. So here is what we experienced.

Food :- A cafe generally has very limited food options and mainly concentrates on coffee, tea and finger food. 70 Beans is an exception. Ever item served here was a masterpiece on its own. Few of our top picks from what we ate are; The Coffee on the Rocks. Chilled creamy strong coffee blended with ice was a perfect start to the day. Along with it they also had Paan Mojito’, Muskmelon Sangria, Kesar Shake all of which were a great blend of taste and a riot of flavours and a must try from the wide variety of drinks.

Though not really a mushroom addict this ‘Mushroom on Toast’ made us fall in love with mushrooms all over again.  Crisp toasts topped with soft creamy mushroom. The mushrooms were well cooked but had the perfect texture.

Breakfasts are just not about toasts and omelettes. The ‘Stuffed Besan Chilla’ was a pleasant change for the vegetarians. Soft Besan or chickpea flour made like a dosa or crepe and stuffed with tossed green peas and cottage cheese. The best part of this dish was the tamarind chutney that it came with. Extremely delicious and perfect on the portion size.

Chilli Cheese Toast was a perfect blend of crispy and gooey. Hot crisp toasties topped with melting cheese and Chillies. One can’t stop at just one toast.

A very unusually fantastic dish that we next loved was the Roasted Baby Potatoes in Barbecue Sauce. Baby jacket potatoes roasted with some herbs and tossed in the creamiest barbecue sauce. The skin of the potato was well roasted and the potatoes were well cooked. The aroma of this dish when it was brought in was great.

Having spoken so much only about the vegetarian dishes, this place boasts of some mouth watering non vegetarian dishes too.

The Crispy Chicken Strips was the usual fare chicken coated with a crumbly texture and deep fried. What we have to talk of here was the dip that was served alongside. Extremely flavourful this dip could go well with possibly every fried item.

For desserts one definitely must call for the  Gulkand Shahi Tukda. Aromatic, pleasing to the eye and an absolute gastronomical delight. The Gulkand not only acted as a dessert but also an after mint.

Ambience :- A cosy cafe overlooking the road. Strewn across are a few table and chairs and also some comfortable couches. A very informal setup loaded with board games, a large pool table and free wi-fi. What more does a person need to spend a few good memorable hours. There are a few table set up outside as well if one is in mood to enjoy the natural air rather than air conditioner.

Hospitality :- A cafe flanked by young , ever smiling , enthusiastic staff is all one needs to make their dining experience memorable. Like they say a kid is the reflection of a parent. The partner / owner  Ruchita was exactly what any customer expects from the restaurant staff. Guiding us throughout the evening on what we must try. Every dish on the menu is personally tried and tested by her. Unless she is not totally convinced the food never finds its way to the menu. Open to criticism and ready to customise as required.

Locality :- Located in the calm by lanes of Sanpada, Navi Mumbai away from the hustle bustle. Though we can’t call it secluded but it definitely is not in the midst of maddening traffic. A walking distance from the railway station and also well connected by public transport.

Affordability :- Being rated one of the best cafes in Mumbai, 70 Beans definitely has something worth talking about. The quality of the items served are top class and there is no compromise what so ever. To maintain such high standards of the products served it is bound to be a little more expensive than its counter parts. But for a coffee lover and a person who loves the best of what is served the cost for 2 which is around 900 is totally  worth it.

Our love for a totally relaxed laid back coffee shop ends here. Not just coffee but food and drinks beyond coffee is what Cafe 70 Beans boasts of.

Juss means a 'meal cooked with love' and it was precisely that when a group of us close friends met up over a vegetarian only unlimited Sindhi thali. The thali comprised of Sindhi Curry, Alu Took, Sai Bhaji,Daran ji Curry, Sanna Pakoda, Chaval, Bhuga Chaval, Bhindi Bassar, Rassewale Alu, Boondi Raita, Papad, Puri, Chapatti, Rose Sharbet and a dessert of our choice. This comforting regional thali is a brainchild of Rohit @thehungrymumbaikar & sure is a super duper hit 👍
Our love for this amazing Indian dessert - The Jalebi is known pretty well in the family and @thechiranjeevlakshman made sure he shared a piece of our love through a picture with us. This is the famous Jalebi from Puruliya district in West Bengal served only in the Shal tree leaf. Dipped in the sweetest of syrup yet retaining its crunch. Shubho Nabo Barsho to everyone as well.
Our "TAMIL NEW YEAR SADHYA" at home today was Rice with Beans Poriyal, Urulai Roast, Manga Curry, Thair Pachchadi, Pal Payasam, Murungakkai Sambhar, & Vadaam. Wishing you all a very Happy Vishu & Baisakhi.
A platefull of Goodness. The Grilled Cottage Steak with fried rice, grilled vegetables and french fries was one of the best we've had @pickleandpint @tungahotels . Apart from being flavourful this meal was a great experience. Pic @shubhamkatariyaphotography
Say 'Hello to the Queen' the most delectable dessert of fried bananas, cinnamon, biscuit crumble, vanilla ice cream, and chunks of juicy strawberries.
