The Guiltless Foodies

A Culinary Explosion at Kaboom, Lower Parel

Time and tide wait for none. In this fast paced life we hardly have time for anything and lunch is one of our last priorities until we came across this QSR. A name sake QSR but in the comfort of a restaurant setup. The range of food is more like fast food but a healthier alternative.

One such evening we were called to gorge on what Kaboom had in offer for us.

As we walked into this brightly lit outlet we were quiet impressed as to how the space was so nicely utilised not wasting even one corner but at the same time not cluttering the area. The concept behind this restaurant is quick fix meal but catering to both, the fast moving office goers or the ones who take lunch too seriously and love to relax and enjoy their lunch time.

The uniqueness here in Kaboom is that everyday the menu changes and you get to try a variety of cuisine everyday of the week. If it’s Monday then it’s Asian or if it’s Thursday it’s Thai, followed by Italian, American, Lebanese on the rest of the days. We were the lucky ones who had an open menu to choose from.

We started our evening with some mind blowing delicious and healthy salads.

Our pick amongst the one we tasted was the ‘Farmers Grain Bowl’. This came in a Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing with lots of grains like Quinoa, flax seeds and a mix of boiled vegetables like broccoli, iceberg lettuce. In whole this salad was a clear winner.

The next order for the evening were some variety of omelettes. Chef Darius was more than happy explaining the content and flavour of each omelette. The best part was that the Chef never compromised on the ingredients. If the Thai omelette was meant to have the spicy red Thai Chillies and if we wanted the same without the spice he suggested that we don’t order for it at all. Such was the dedication and precision with taste. Our order for the evening was ‘Cheese and Mushroom omelette’ , ‘Caponata Omelette’ and ‘Turkish Omelette’. Each of these came sandwiched between 2 slices of crisp toast. A wholesome meal in total.

The drinks at our disposal were some extremely foamy cappuccino, and some sugar free orange and lime sodas. Though the sodas were sour but they were meant to be so, for those health freaks but for the ones who liked their drinks sweet, could get some sugar syrup added to it.

Next in line were the fries. One variety for each day of the week. Our favorites amongst what we tried were the ‘Farmers Fries’ which was this potato fries topped with Parmesan and ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ which was tossed in some extremely spicy mix.  A dream come true for all those spice lovers.

Variety being the code of conduct for the evening we were ready for the main course. ‘Panini grill sandwich’ was first to arrive on the table. Crisp fresh vegetables, saucy spread and what more does one want. Some fries? Yes. All this, and the meal is just what you need.

The winner of the evening way ahead of all the other dishes, sitting at a pedestal higher than all was the ‘ Deconstruct Falafel’. The chef must have been in his best of moods when he decided to put this on the menu. Crisp falafel tossed in hummus, tahini and some crunchy veggies. Simple, yet extremely delicious. That evening the same was ordered in such quantities that the restaurant actually ran out.

Desserts were not the usual heavy kinds. Moist, gluten free and sugar free cake. The speed at which the cake was wiped off existence was something you should watch in the video at the end. The other dessert was soft Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies. Our evening ended in the most amazing way with the Kaboom Food anthem which the Chef and the Owner Yohaan sang for us. What an unusual and fun way to end our evening. Totally loved it.

At very few places we come across a restaurant having something unique and different. That one USP sets them a class apart from the rest. Here at Kaboom the detailing to everything that they do was something worth mentioning. The daily changing menu, the healthy ingredients used in almost everything, the personalisation to everyone’s palate to the unique Buzzer which lights up and starts vibrating the moment your food is ready.

Juss means a 'meal cooked with love' and it was precisely that when a group of us close friends met up over a vegetarian only unlimited Sindhi thali. The thali comprised of Sindhi Curry, Alu Took, Sai Bhaji,Daran ji Curry, Sanna Pakoda, Chaval, Bhuga Chaval, Bhindi Bassar, Rassewale Alu, Boondi Raita, Papad, Puri, Chapatti, Rose Sharbet and a dessert of our choice. This comforting regional thali is a brainchild of Rohit @thehungrymumbaikar & sure is a super duper hit 👍
Our love for this amazing Indian dessert - The Jalebi is known pretty well in the family and @thechiranjeevlakshman made sure he shared a piece of our love through a picture with us. This is the famous Jalebi from Puruliya district in West Bengal served only in the Shal tree leaf. Dipped in the sweetest of syrup yet retaining its crunch. Shubho Nabo Barsho to everyone as well.
Our "TAMIL NEW YEAR SADHYA" at home today was Rice with Beans Poriyal, Urulai Roast, Manga Curry, Thair Pachchadi, Pal Payasam, Murungakkai Sambhar, & Vadaam. Wishing you all a very Happy Vishu & Baisakhi.
