When We went “Oh My Gorge” !!

What do we mean, when we say Big things come in small packages ? Success in life is founded upon attention to the small things. But at the same time you’ve got to think big while doing the small things. That way you make sure you go in the right direction.

With Team OMG

This is the exact story of a quaint little place in Mumbai which is small enough to pack the biggest punch ever. “Oh My Gorge” was founded by two friends who had larger than life inspiration to start up small and eventually rise to make it big. They knew the exact difference between what their interests were and what their commitment is. Because when you are interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. But when you are committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.

So true – Right ?

We had to visit this much talked about place in town, who served one of the best Thick Shakes and some mouth-watering delicacies. And here is our experience of our coruscating meal in an small, but energetic place that just swept us off our feet.

Tabbouleh with a Twist

Our meal started with the ‘Tabbouleh with a Twist’. Who knew Quinoa could be this tasty and a complete meal. An Indianised salad with crunchy onions, ripe tomatoes, boiled chick peas, garbanzo, crumbled feta and loads and loads of lemon. The sourness did give us the right kick and within moments we sent back the empty bowl. We were in half minds to ask for another portion, but held back our cravings. There was a lot more to eat. Make sure it’s ordered on your visit.

Sweet Potato Fries

Next was the ‘Sweet Potato Fries’. A healthier version of the usual French fries. These sweet potatoes strips were dipped in a batter so that it’s wasn’t all that unhealthy and soaked less oil. The highlight of this delicious starter was the rather unusual lip smacking dip. Amla or goose berry olio. The sourness of the amla along with the creaminess of the mayo made us lick it clean.

Next was the ‘Cottage Cheese Fingers with Mango Chutney’ Beautiful looking cottage cheese strips dressed to perfection with a crunchy coating. These came dipped in a spicy mango Chutney in shot glasses. Thought the cottage cheese lacked taste and was rather bland but the coating and the sweet spicy dip made up for it.

Till now the non-vegetarians on the table were actually enjoying the vegetarian fare. They literally jumped in excitement when the ‘Chicken Bites with Spicy Mango Dip’ was served. The start to the non veg meal wasn’t that great but the saviour again was the spicy mango dip. The chicken bites were rather too small and before one could relish the taste it was over. Maybe a slightly bigger piece would have done better justice.

Sprout & Cottage Cheese Sandwich

Up next was a veg sandwich. ‘Sprout and cottage cheese sandwich’. Every dish at this place had some kind of a healthy tag to it. A great mix of green sprouts with cottage cheese. Very simple to eat but high on taste. A very good and innovative twist to the usual sandwich.

Crazy milkshakes is all we could write about the shakes here. Any sort of explanation wouldn’t do justice to the amazing creamy shakes. Truly an OMG!!! moment with every sip. We were privileged to try the ‘Chocolate Overload Shake’ and ‘Strawberry Cheese Cake Shake’. These thick shakes had the right texture, flavour and looked like a charm. Make sure you Instagram it before you dig in. We personally haven’t had such dreamy shakes ever before, and personally recommend these to everyone.

Having heard of the burgers here at OMG from fellow bloggers and being a burger fanatic we sure didn’t want to give this a miss. We called for the ‘Barbecue pulled Chicken Burger. As it came in through the kitchen doors, something in us kept repeating that this was definitely one of a kind. True to our prediction the burger was truly amazing. Juicy and tender pieces of slow cooked pulled chicken tossed in a flavourful homemade barbecue sauce and topped with some coleslaw. The burger came along with a handful of crisp fries. This was like a meal made in heaven and served on earth. Fulfilling and so convincing that this was the best we have had in a very long time now.

Barbecue Pulled Chicken Burger

Now our moods were uplifted and we wanted to experience more exotic dishes. So we ordered the ‘Chicken Schnitzel’. Chicken fried to perfection with the right crunch at the crust but retaining the moistness of the meat. These came with some herb tossed boiled veggies and the creamiest and most flavourful mashed potatoes. Very few places in Mumbai get their mashed potatoes right and Oh My Gorge is one of them. What a perfect way to end the main course.

Chicken Schnitzel

The vegetarians we were served the ‘Spaghetti Aglio Olio’. Perfectly cooked spaghetti retaining the right amount of chewiness and tossed in olive oil, garlic bits and chilli flakes. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the ingredients as this was by far the best we have had. Wasn’t too spicy or pungent nor was it oily. A little bit of brocolli and baby corn gave the dish its crunch and added to the taste of this amazing preparation.

Spaghetti Aglio Olio

Along with the main course we ordered some juices as well. Healthy being the key word, one of us went for the ‘Green Machine’ which was a mix of cucumber, celery, spinach, bottle gourd, apple, lemon and some chia seeds. The perfect detox after great party nights. We also called for a ‘Hot Chocolate’ and a ‘Raw Mango Cooler’

Green Machine & Raw Mango Cooler

First time in our life as a blogger / foodie have we walked out of a restaurant without desserts. Not because they didn’t have many options but we were extremely contented and didn’t think we were committing a crime by not having desserts.

OMG is open all day for breakfast and we are sure after great night outs one would love to sit at this pretty looking cafe and sip on some healthy juices along with some great food. Another unique thing about OMG is it is pet friendly on Tuesdays. So what are you waiting for? One among the many reasons again would be that that have spin a dice game where in if you are lucky  you can win yourself something extra to go along with your food, either a dessert or  small sides. You could also catch up with a friend over a few board games, or even seclude yourself with a great book and some delicious Shakes.

Hot Chocolate

There is this quote which we had used before and would like to use again “Somethings never fails to amaze you, and every day there is a little something new to it that makes you love it even more than the day before”. Similarly our visit to “Oh My Gorge started off in a very subtle way, and took us to a different high altogether towards the end.

So, Even if its for some alone time or spending an evening with good friends, this place sure does need a visit. Who knows, this might end up as your favorite to-go joint.

Juss means a 'meal cooked with love' and it was precisely that when a group of us close friends met up over a vegetarian only unlimited Sindhi thali. The thali comprised of Sindhi Curry, Alu Took, Sai Bhaji,Daran ji Curry, Sanna Pakoda, Chaval, Bhuga Chaval, Bhindi Bassar, Rassewale Alu, Boondi Raita, Papad, Puri, Chapatti, Rose Sharbet and a dessert of our choice. This comforting regional thali is a brainchild of Rohit @thehungrymumbaikar & sure is a super duper hit 👍
Our love for this amazing Indian dessert - The Jalebi is known pretty well in the family and @thechiranjeevlakshman made sure he shared a piece of our love through a picture with us. This is the famous Jalebi from Puruliya district in West Bengal served only in the Shal tree leaf. Dipped in the sweetest of syrup yet retaining its crunch. Shubho Nabo Barsho to everyone as well.
