At Guiltless Foodies, we’re all about food. And if you are reading this, even you’re all about food. “Good Food is tastier when shared with good friends”. So we welcome you to this droolicious world of awe inspiring delicacies where food meets all your expectations… and beyond.

In our quest to find out Mumbai’s favorite Watering Holes that are more known for their food, we bumped into Quench – All Day Pub. The brain child of two friends who, though form a different background make sure that their interests are made purely from determination and hard work.

We’ve been to places that serve the best when it comes to booze. But they somehow fail to satiate when it comes to food. Quite to our surprise our visit to Quench was more like those ‘Sweep you off your feet’ types. Here’s what we loved there.

Chilli Cheese Toast

We were invited over by The Vegetarian Bhukkad to try their all new menu. Consisting of some interesting entrées and some main course. We were sure our evening was well taken care of. From the list of entrées we first ordered the ‘Chilli Cheese Toast’. How can one perfect the art of making the chilli cheese toast ? Head to Quench like we did. Small crisp triangles of bread topped with the most delicious cheese. Neither too much nor too little but just right to coat the palette with some extremely great flavours. Tiny bits of chillies and capsicum felt heavenly and we had to agree in unison that ‘This was it’.

For drinks we were served the ‘Quench’ which was healthy infusion of raspberry and apple juice along with ‘Citrus Fizz’ which was a strawberry, orange, cranberry and sprite mocktail. Since we were here to try the new food menu, we won’t be talking much about the drinks.

Citrus Fizz & Quench

One thing which never goes wrong is the Chinese cuisine. But here at Quench the preparation of ‘Oriental Veggies’ went up by one notch. The health blend of veggies well marinated and coated in a batter and deep fried. This didn’t end there. The chunky batter fried veggies were tosses in the best ever oriental sauce and it was made sure that every veggie was equally and well coated. These chunks were crispy yet saucy and mind it, not a bit soggy due to the sauce. A great dish all together.

Crispy Chicken Schezwan

For the non-vegetarian starter, similar to the Oriental veggies was the ‘Crispy Chicken Schezwan’. This was another must have for every chicken lover. The soft juicy chicken tossed with the spicy schezwan sauce.  When presented on the table it was piping hot which added to the spice quotient, and the air conditioned interiors dint help much. But we thoroughly enjoyed it this way.

Next to arrive was the ‘Fish & Chips’.  The batter fried Basa fish was extremely soft with a wonderful texture on the inside. What started as a plan to just have a few bites ended up on clearing the whole platter clean. The dip accompanying the fish was just about perfect. The fries did their part of being a crispy bite in between. Overall an extremely well done dish which just left us wanting for more.

Fish & Chips

Heard from so many fellow bloggers that Quench has the best paprika sauce ever. Hence we decided to go ahead with the recommendation of all. We asked for the ‘Prawns Paprika’. And this was indeed the star of the evening and totally lived up to its expectation. Soft melt in the mouth prawns tossed in extremely cheesy sauce. Not too spicy but the perfect amalgamation of paprika and cheese. An all-time favourite with us.

Prawns Paprika

Next in line was the ‘Spaghetti in Paprika Sauce’. Mild in flavour, soft in texture and subtle in taste and definitely beautiful to look at best describes this dish. A simple mix of perfectly done spaghetti in a creamy pink cheese sauce. This was the same most talked about paprika sauce which we were also informed to be the best seller of the restaurant. Though we would have preferred it to be a little spicier as the cheese was a tad too much. But a dash of chilli flakes and oregano worked wonders and took care of the spaghetti just like we wanted it. One could request this preparation to be made with some extra paprika and it will end up just perfect.

Spaghetti in Paprika Sauce

The ‘Peking Red sizzler’ was our vegetarian main course. The saucy Kung Pao potatoes with the right smoky flavour was part of the platter.  Along with came the tossed veggies in a garlic sauce base. Crunchy baby corn, crisp capsicum and a dash of spring onion is all it required to make this gravy a great side to the veg fried rice. A well balanced portion not too much nor too less but just the perfect portion one can easily consume.

Peking Red sizzler

Then arrived the mighty king, sizzling and grabbing everyone’s attention. The ‘Chicken Jalapeno Sizzler’. A winner by looks, a winner by taste, there is nothing more in this world a hard core non vegetarian can ask for. Tender chicken breasts stuffed with small chunks of jalapenos in a mildly tangy pesto sauce. And this was accompanied by a portion of creamy risotto. Whatever said about the risotto would be too little. One has to taste it to experience the delight. A perfect ending to a great meal.

They didn’t have too many dessert options hence had to settle for the usual ‘Sizzling Chocolate Brownie’ with vanilla ice cream. We could have definitely given this a miss but every good meal has to end with something sweet, so we went ahead. It was nothing out of the box nor was it a must have. But we couldn’t complain much as the food took care of it all.

With the city space dotted with watering holes hammering the concept of ‘More Booze and Less Food’, Quench is a welcome change to people who want a balanced best of the both worlds.

Party with some lip smacking food on your mind? You know where to head.
