Food is not rational. Food is culture, food is habit, food is craving. Food is identity. If you’ve been following our posts, pictures & articles, you will realise that food obtains a prominent space in many of our lives. One doesn’t necessarily need to be a foodie or a bon viveur to enjoy good food. The simple love for good taste and the passion for trying out varied culinary options is just enough.


We have always been on the lookout to discover new restaurants and eateries. There have been times when we ended up with total regret and times when we gave ourselves a pat or two on our back to have found ‘The One’ good place which really needs a highlight.

Talking about highlights, there are some restaurants that are worth the appreciation and the mention. While there are others that just need more than that. ‘La Ruche – Bar & Grill’ will be amongst the few that we will keep visiting and keep talking about.

We visited them with blogger duo Gastronomical Affair during their Sizzle Drizzle fest. With a whole new menu introducing these wholesome, delectable, full-flavoured and mouth-watering Sizzlers, we were in for quite a surprise. Want to know how surprised ? Read on…


Green Apple Whiskey Sour’ and some refreshing ‘Virgin Colada’ ‘Cranberry Cooler’ & ‘Virgin Mojito

The new menu curated by Chef Juliano Rodrigues consisted of some unique house blended flavours and secret sauces that just kept us wanting for more. Our evening started with some flavourful cocktails like ‘Green Apple Whiskey Sour’ and some refreshing ‘Virgin Colada’ ‘Cranberry Cooler’ & ‘Virgin Mojito’. We were briefed by the Chef about the need for the new menu and the idea behind it. Tantalized by the concept, we were eagerly waiting on the stupendous course that was lined up for us.


Bruschetta topped with Cherry Tomato & fresh Mozzarella

First came from the entrées – ‘Bruschetta topped with Cherry Tomato & fresh Mozzarella’. On a serious note, we didn’t quite expect to be bowled over by the very first item. The perfectly made Antipasto we’ve had with a generous amount of cheese topped with cherry tomatoes and herbs. With a start like this, we were pretty sure the rest of our journey was going to be amazing.


Stuffed Mushrooms

Up next was the ‘Stuffed Mushrooms’. Piece of art is what we like to call it. Truly unique to its taste, with a spinach, mix seeds and cheese stuffing. Served with a perfectly blended dip that was a bit sweet & sour and enough spice to go well with the mushrooms. We fell in love with this. With these two highly appreciated entrées our stimulated taste buds were ready for more of these mouth-watering delicacies.


Cottage Cheese Shawarma

We were served the ‘Cottage Cheese Shawarma’. This Middle Eastern delicacy had spiced and grilled Cottage Cheese served with Pita, tossed veggie salad, accompanied with two relish dips. An altogether amazing creation by the chef. Though we felt the spice quotient to be a bit less, the marination of the cottage cheese was about perfect. And it went well with the accompaniments.


Mediterranean Seafood Lettuce Wrap

With our anticipation growing high by the second we were quite done with the starters part and wanted to dig into the mains – Sizzlers to be precise. The chef assured us that our wait would be completely worth it and served the last dish from the entrées. ‘Mediterranean Seafood Lettuce Wrap’. A true seafood lover’s dream. Grilled Squids, Prawns and Fish tossed with bell peppers, corn and olives, served with a lemon chilli garlic dip. Simply out of this world.


Kasundi Glazed Cottage Cheese Skewers with Smoked Cherry Tomato Sauce

Now it was time for the essentially desired Sizzlers. We were impressed by the very first look of the ‘Kasundi Glazed Cottage Cheese Skewers with Smoked Cherry Tomato Sauce’. Beautifully plated Cottage Cheese skewers glazed with a pungent mustard marination along with buttered rice, pan tossed vegetables and baby mashed potatoes. It tasted as good as it looked.


Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Chicken Roulade

Next up was a non-vegetarian surprise. ‘Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Chicken Roulade’. The blockbuster for the night. It was as if the Chef had brought the sizzler to life. Chicken Breast marinated with Red Wine and stuffed with Mushroom and Garlic mash wrapped around crispy Bacon strips. There aren’t enough words in this world to describe this amazing creation. Goes straight to our permanent orders.


Mushroom Spinach and Corn Patty

The ‘Mushroom Spinach and Corn Patty’ Sizzler that came next was really good. Served with spicy Paprika sauce, roasted jacket Potatoes, Oriental Rice, and grilled Vegetables. Frankly we couldn’t get the Bacon Wrapped Chicken Sizzler out of our heads.


Sausage Tower with Mashed Gravy and Vegetables

The last surprise for the evening was the ‘Sausage Tower with Mashed Gravy and Vegetables’. As they say – A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions. We are pretty sure we can never go back to any other sizzler after experiencing this. What the chef did with this was pure magic. We were just spell bound. This was the chef’s twist to the traditional Bangers & Mash. Definite must haves.


Flourless Belgian Chocolate Cake with Ice Cream

Mesmerised by our meal, we weren’t sure if we were capable enough to take any more surprises by the chef. And it was time for desserts. We were served the ‘Flourless Belgian Chocolate Cake with Ice Cream’. The combination of the chocolate, Cocoa and butter was just Rich. This with the Vanilla Ice cream just took it over the top. Following this was the chef’s special ‘Baklava’. A mix of Walnuts, Almonds and Pistachios mixed in chocolate and served in a thin and crispy waffle like filo base. The rich, sweet nuts held together with melted chocolate was an out of this world experience.



Like Julia Child once said “Cooking is a lot more like love; it should be entered into with abandon, or not at all”. Chef Juliano does the exact same. With his passion and forte for European Meat Twist for the past 16 years, we doubt if he will ever go wrong. On a very true note, we loved our time at La Ruche – Bar & Grill and our visit was more than a memorable one.


We promise to return time and again.

Juss means a 'meal cooked with love' and it was precisely that when a group of us close friends met up over a vegetarian only unlimited Sindhi thali. The thali comprised of Sindhi Curry, Alu Took, Sai Bhaji,Daran ji Curry, Sanna Pakoda, Chaval, Bhuga Chaval, Bhindi Bassar, Rassewale Alu, Boondi Raita, Papad, Puri, Chapatti, Rose Sharbet and a dessert of our choice. This comforting regional thali is a brainchild of Rohit @thehungrymumbaikar & sure is a super duper hit 👍
Our love for this amazing Indian dessert - The Jalebi is known pretty well in the family and @thechiranjeevlakshman made sure he shared a piece of our love through a picture with us. This is the famous Jalebi from Puruliya district in West Bengal served only in the Shal tree leaf. Dipped in the sweetest of syrup yet retaining its crunch. Shubho Nabo Barsho to everyone as well.
Our "TAMIL NEW YEAR SADHYA" at home today was Rice with Beans Poriyal, Urulai Roast, Manga Curry, Thair Pachchadi, Pal Payasam, Murungakkai Sambhar, & Vadaam. Wishing you all a very Happy Vishu & Baisakhi.
